Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter.
- Cut day-old bread into 1-inch cubes and spread evenly in the prepared dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
- Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes in the baking dish, gently pressing down to help them absorb the custard.
- Let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes; then remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden brown.
- In a saucepan, combine granulated sugar and water, cooking over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and turns golden amber. Add warm heavy cream, then butter, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt.
- Once cooled slightly, cut into squares and drizzle with warm vanilla caramel sauce before serving.

Notes
Allow the bread to soak in the custard for at least 10-15 minutes for even flavor absorption.
