  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon in a large bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk dark brown sugar with eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Fold in most of the chopped pecans, reserving some for topping.
  6. Fill each muffin cup two-thirds full and sprinkle reserved pecans on top. Optionally, drizzle with maple syrup or honey.
