Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) while you prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing them with butter or oil and dusting with flour.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, blend together the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Dissolve instant espresso powder in boiling water, then pour this liquid into the batter, stirring until well blended.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow the cake layers to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Whip heavy cream until soft peaks form, adding vanilla or powdered sugar to taste if desired.
- On a decorative serving plate, place one layer of the cooled cake, add a layer of whipped cream, followed by caramel sauce.
- Repeat the process with the second cake layer, then top with remaining whipped cream and drizzle with caramel sauce.
- Sprinkle with chocolate shavings and a pinch of sea salt for garnish.
- Refrigerate the assembled cake for about 30 minutes before serving.

Notes
Ensure to cool the cakes completely before assembling to avoid melty cream and maintain layer structure.
