Ingredients

For the Sandwich
  • 8 slices Center-cut applewood smoked bacon Provides crispiness and smoky flavor; turkey bacon is a great lean substitute.
  • 6 slices Hearty white sandwich bread Serves as a solid foundation; consider sourdough or whole grain for extra taste.
  • 3 medium Vine-ripened tomatoes Adds juiciness and acidity; fresh is always best for flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt Enhances overall taste; if using table salt, use half the amount.
  • 1 teaspoon Freshly ground black pepper Delivers a subtle kick; no substitutes, adjust based on your preference.
  • 3/4 cup Mayonnaise Brings creaminess and richness; Greek yogurt can lighten it up if desired.
  • 4 leaves Romaine lettuce Adds a crunchy, fresh element; feel free to swap in spinach or arugula.
  • 8 ounces Deli turkey The star protein providing richness; leftover roasted turkey works too.
  • 16 pieces Toothpicks Keeps your sandwich together; sandwich skewers can be a fun alternative.

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a skillet, heat over medium heat and add the center-cut applewood smoked bacon. Cook for about 8–10 minutes, turning occasionally until crispy and golden brown.
  2. While the bacon cools, toast slices of hearty white sandwich bread until golden brown, about 3–5 minutes.
  3. Spread an even layer of mayonnaise on one side of each toasted slice, using about 2 tablespoons per slice.
  4. Layer on fresh romaine lettuce, followed by slices of tomatoes, deli turkey, and crispy bacon. Add another slice of toast on top, mayo side down, and repeat the layering process.
  5. Place a third slice of toasted bread on top, mayo side down, pressing gently to help the ingredients meld together.
  6. Cut the sandwich diagonally into halves or quarters and secure each section with a toothpick.
