  • 2 cups Very Hot Water Do not stir after pouring over the batter!

Method
 

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the unsweetened applesauce, milk, melted butter (or vegetable oil), vanilla extract, and grated carrot until well incorporated.
  4. Slowly pour the wet mixture into the bowl containing the dry ingredients, gently folding them together to form a thick batter.
  5. Carefully pour the batter into an 8-inch rectangular baking dish, smoothing the surface with a spatula.
  6. In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and chopped walnuts (or pecans). Evenly sprinkle this mixture over the batter.
  7. Carefully pour very hot water over the entire dish without stirring.
  8. Place the baking dish in your preheated oven and bake for 40-50 minutes.
  9. Allow the cobbler to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving it warm.
